For high earners (anyone earning 200K or more) , Salary drawn from the job is taxed up to 33-36%(fed), n%(state) etc. So nearly 50% of salary would go to Uncle Sam, before you see in your paycheck. For these CEO types, It is absolutely not wise to draw money that way. Rather use a tax loophole and exercise stocks sale and pay 15% tax on long term gain. So much for $1 salary :). Who cares for salary, when they literally own billions and get away with paying lower taxes. (Lots of politicians fall into this category as well) However most upper med class, professional (Doctors, Attorney, Hi-tech professionals, Small business owner) are not so lucky and always crushed under distorted populist political agenda. Although seemed like these professionals, earn a lot, but they also end up paying a lot of taxes and see very less in their paychecks compared to what they earn on paper. Most of them don’t own insane amount freebie stock options. Our govt. should distinguish between these high earners (also struggling to keep up in this economy, still paying student loans, raising families, saving for their kids educations etc etc.), vs very high earners those are using tax loopholes. (including corporations).
